The Most Common Myths About

Running Injuries

You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Have Led To More Pain

Here are some of the most common running injury pain myths that people who visit Ageless Agility in Davie have been told, which have actually hindered their progress and delayed their recovery from the condition.

MYTH #1 - Rest Will Fix Knee and Hip Pain
A common myth I frequently hear from my patients is that if you're experiencing knee or hip pain, you just need to rest and the pain will go away. While rest might provide temporary relief for an acute injury, it’s not a long-term solution. If the underlying issue isn't addressed, the pain will return once you resume running. The key is to identify what’s causing the pain and why something is out of alignment before stopping completely.
MYTH #2 - Running Is Bad For Your Joints, Especially As You Get Older
Many believe that running is harmful to your joints, particularly as you age. This is simply not true. The real cause of pain and irritation while running is poor form and muscle imbalances, not the act of running itself. With proper training, rehab, and strengthening techniques, you can continue running for decades. Running also provides numerous health benefits, such as reducing the risk of cardiac disease, osteoporosis, and improving sleep quality.
MYTH #3 - Anti-Inflammatories Are The Answer To Running Pain
Some people think taking anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) is the solution to running pain. While painkillers might offer temporary relief, it doesn’t address the root cause of the pain. You shouldn’t need to rely on pain medications like Tylenol or Advil every time you want to run. By correcting muscle imbalances and the underlying issues, you should be able to wake up, stretch, and begin your day with a run without depending on medication.
MYTH #4 - Cortisone Injections Are Necessary Every Few Months
Another myth is that you need a cortisone injection every three to six months to manage an injury picked up while running. This approach doesn't solve the problem. Instead of relying on injections, we need to figure out why you need them in the first place. By addressing the imbalances and correcting alignment, you can eliminate the need for frequent injections. It’s important to treat the root cause and look at your body as a whole, not just as a runner with knee pain.
